Universal American Healthcare
Social Security is the main plank of the (inadequate) American safety net, but in addition to Social Insurance, Americans need Health Insurance. Right now there are 44 million Americans without insurance, and another 40 or so million who go without health insurance for part of each year. That is 30% of all Americans.Kevin Drum at the Political Animal (from Washington Monthly) and his guest blogger, Ezekiel Emanuel are discussing universal healthcare for Americans. Ezekial has an interesting proposal that would cover everyone, and the rest is discussion of whether it would work and what the problems (both administrative and political) are. It is a series of comments and comments. Read the comments also.
